InLight: A Celebration of 1708 Gallery's 30th Anniversary: An Overview

September 5, 2008, 7 PM - MIDNIGHT

Inspired by
Nuit Blanche Paris and other similar international events, this is a big, all night celebration of the arts which will take place on the 100, 200 and 300 blocks of Broad Street on First Friday. Traffic on Broad Street will be re-routed for the event, which may include additional venues beyond the designated area. InLight will begin at 7 PM and end at midnight.

Possible Elements:

Broad Street as Canvas - installation art featuring projections and other light-inspired art with an emphasis on the buildings within the designated district. To include store windows, installations within the buildings and work on the streets and medians. Requires curator (s) and sponsorships, working in collaboration with property owners and the city.

Outdoor Spectacle of Moving Sculpture - produced entirely by VCU school of the arts students and faculty

Music and Dance Performances - on the streets, at the Empire Theatre with two additional performance stages

Film and Video Screenings - on the streets, in galleries and other spaces

Interactive art making - offering an opportunity to create to everyone

Legacy Art - Providing Richmond with Public Art (collaboration with area corporations)
